The phrase “a dog is a man’s best friend” has been attributed to Senator George Graham Vest, who represented a man whose dog, Old Drum was shot and killed by his neighbor, in a case that went to the Missouri Supreme Court in 1870. His closing argument’s have been memorialized with his now famous “Eulogy to the Dog” speech which won the case. There wasn’t a dry eye in the courtroom when he finished his closing remarks, and to this day, a statue of Old Drum stands in front of the courthouse in Missouri.

This famous phrase, so aptly describes the Australian Labradoodle. The affection and devotion these dogs have for us is amazing. Because the Australian Labradoodle was initially bred to be a allergy friendly guide dog, the qualities developed by the original breeders have continued down through the selective breeding process to produce one of the most intelligent, intuitive, loyal breeds ever! Their ability to make eye contact with you and read your moods and feelings is uncanny. They want nothing more than to be by your side in every situation. They are highly intelligent and easy to train. They will be the star of your obedience class. Bred to be a companion dog, they do not do well away from their family for long. This is not the breed to pick if everyone works full time and is away from home for long hours. But if you want a dog that is your faithful companion, there is no breed better suited!
